Biography
Jami Kovach is the director and anchor instructor for the UH-Six Sigma Certification Program and is an Assistant Professor in the Technology Leadership and Supervision Program at the University of Houston. She received her B.S. in Textile Engineering from North Carolina State University and an M.S. in Textile Technology from the Institute of Textile Technology. She also received her M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Clemson University. Her industrial experience includes several years as a product and process improvement engineer in the U.S. textile industry, and her research interests include robust design, D-optimal design, and quality improvement and management methods. In addition, she is certified in Six Sigma Black Belt training and instructs industrial clients on the use of Six Sigma and other quality improvement initiatives within their organizations.

Biography
Luis de la Torre is TMAC's statewide chairman of the Center of Excellence for Strategic Solutions and leads the TMAC Gulf Coast efforts on designing new, customized products for specific markets such as healthcare and construction. He received a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Monterrey Tech and an M.S. in Manufacturing from University of Texas - Pan-American. His Master's thesis concerned mass customization of products which led him to extensive research on the High Mix - Low Volume production scheme. For more than 10 years, he has been directly involved in the areas of manufacturing, quality and production.
As a Lean Manufacturing and Productivity Improvement Specialist, he has trained production, supervision and management personnel from manufacturing and service companies in several areas, including Lean Manufacturing Principles, 5S and Quick Changeover (SMED). In addition, he leads and manages lean implementation projects and process improvement events, performs ergonomics and productivity analysis for production, assembly and service lines as well as for Quality Control / Quality Improvement techniques and methodologies.
As a Certified Facilitator for Accelerated Learning (Learn to learn) Skills, he applies accelerated learning, brain dynamics for learning, and learning to learn approaches to his training and implementation projects. He is also bilingual and can conduct training and implementation projects in either English or Spanish.
